"Ice Fire" Family

I started this series long ago, but now it's quite taken over. So much fun to finally work with. It began life as an ice sculpture of an eagle (maybe a swan), many years ago. Now it has taken on a life of it's own.

Here are a few of it's many children, and some  grandchildren.
There are many more in the works, and a number of videos. Moving Paintings?

"Light at the End of the Tunnel" Cabbage Winner & its Offspring

Winner of the First Whimsy Poll.

The "survival of the fittest" decision is crowd sourced.

The Whimsies often use only a portion of the original, so the first thing I do to the winners is to optimize them for Whimsy production. I like to increase the resolution and add interesting textures and details that make the Whimsy Creatures more interesting.

"White Caps" and the "Royal Blue Court" from start to finish

"White Caps"
A multi-program and multi-process artwork from the Cabbages series.
It takes a long time to construct these artworks, but that's the fun part. Here's a bit about how go about it.
Picture"White Caps" Original Source
This is the original source for the entire White caps family, chosen for it's strong diagonal composition and high contrast color scheme. Plus it has a cool row of spots.

This image, taken with an iPhone 4,  has evolved  a very large family

"White Caps" square version
You can see I completely rebuilt the entire left side, using manipulated  pieces from other parts of the image, or from other images from the same photo shoot. The upper left backgound leaf is derived from the upper right one. The left lobe of the central group is derived from the Center one. The square version is partly cropped, partly reconfigured from the long version.

"The Royal Blue Court" and other Whimsies from "White Caps" Cabbage artwork.

Here are some of the offspring from "White Caps". I like to work in evolutionary series, with crowd-sourced decisions as to which images gets to procreate.
