Cabbage Maleficent!

This is one of the Cabbage Queens from awhile back...

The Cabbage Queens started as idea sketches for a brain scan image for Alice, but many of them were definitely personages.

Hmmm. Maybe it's the wicked queen from Snow White

"Bed Head"

It was a
cold rainy November day in Virginia's Northern neck when I encountered the specimen that was the model for this image. The whole plant was about 3 feet across! Very impressive.

"Bed Head" has been accepted into a regional juried show at the Hill Center galleries on Capitol Hill by judge Philip Kennicott, Art & Architecture Critic at The Washington Post. The show will be up June 25 - September 1.

Pastel painting demo.
I've been working on converting some of my step-by-step pastel demos into short videos.

Here's one, about 45 seconds long. It's made from stills taken with my iPhone, so it's a bit choppy., and the colors are all over the place.

This is the revised version, with captions.

    About
    the Artist

Nancy Freeman is a native of California who lives now in Washington, DC. A lifelong artist, she paints portraits and other commissions for a living, which keeps her traditional skills tuned and supports her decades-old obsession with computer art, and pastel painting.

She is currently using her 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th computers, but remembers
when Dick Tracy had to make do with a two-way wrist radio.
