Painted Pot Dreams
This unassuming potted plant inspired a whole new phase of my work.
The pot itself, painted with daffodils and leaves by an anonymous Weller
artisan a century ago, lived in a south-facing bay for years, attracting
little notice. But last winter, while sitting in the sun coming in
through the blinds, I noticed how the stripes of sun and shade struck
the plant and pot in an interesting way. As I started taking abstract
photographs of the patterns, an alternate world emerged. I've taken
about 800 pictures of this pot so far and do believe it would provide an
endless number of compositions. Now I'm addicted to sun stripes.
