First Cabbage Invitational Artwork Finished - "Whitecaps"

8/9/2014

"Whitecaps"

Based on one of the three Cabbage Elimination Round One winners, ("Blue Divide"), this image used parts of four different photos, eight or ten programs, and LOTS of time.

This part is the reason why I'm doing my Kickstarter project - I get to do the artwork! Still, it always takes longer than I think it will. I do have a tendency to get way too involved in the details, which I am forever warning my students about.

I'm very pleased to get one of my pixel-based artworks accepted into a very competitive show.
Thank you to juror, Olivia Kohler-Maga, for selecting "At Rest" to be part of the Art League of Alexandria's August "Scapes" show. The show will hang from August 6 through September 1

Cabbage of the Day: Bubble Blues

"Bubble Blues"

Instead of working on the long scarf design I should've finished days ago, I got side-tracked by another descendant of our Cover cabbage, "Shell Fan". To get to this point took hundreds of steps, and 6 or 8 different apps and programs.

Nobody said working with pixels is easy, but it sure is fun.

"Maleficent of the Cabbages!"
Here's one of the Cabbage "Whimsies". I get a kick out of making these, but they probably won't make it to the finals, so I'll post them here occasionally. This is "Maleficent of the Cabbages!"

The Cabbage Art & Scarf Invitational

The Cabbage Art and Scarf Invitational exhibition, sponsored by the Capital Hill Art League and the
Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, highlights the recent work I've been doing with cabbage imagery, and introduces the
T
he Cabbage Art & Scarf Invitational Kickstarter project. This KickStarter campaign is an collaborative art project that features a number of cabbage images competing for the right to become works of art. The viewers and participants act as the force of natural selection by voting on the images tournament style on my website. When I've finished turning the winners into artworks, you choose which to develop into scarf designs.
Be part of the creative process!    MORE INFO HERE.

The exhibit will be up July 7 - July 31,   at 545 7th Street SE, Washington, DC 20003

THE CABBAGE ART & SCARF INVITATIONAL

Be part of the creative process! This is an interactive art project that features a number of cabbage images competing for the right to become works of art. The participants act as the force of natural selection by voting on the images tournament style on my website. When I've finished turning the winners into artworks, you choose which to develop into scarf designs. Please share this so that others who are interested can participate too. The Cabbage Art & Scarf Invitational is done in conjunction with a Kickstarter project of the same name to actually produce the scarves, which will start later this week. This round of advance voting is for the Kickstarter cover image.
Thanks for participating!

"Bed Head"

It was a
cold rainy November day in Virginia's Northern neck when I encountered the specimen that was the model for this image. The whole plant was about 3 feet across! Very impressive.

"Bed Head" has been accepted into a regional juried show at the Hill Center galleries on Capitol Hill by judge Philip Kennicott, Art & Architecture Critic at The Washington Post. The show will be up June 25 - September 1.
